Ok. I want everyones opinion on this. About language used in posting. I don't know where I should draw the line on poor language. Which should be acceptable here and what shouldn't be seen. I have certain prefereces for what is heard out in public and for what is heard when talking to a greasy diesel mechanic in the shop. I want to hear everyones thoughts on this since the board is growing and I want to stick with something consistent.

For example, I don't use the word bitch in public much because it is not a nice way to describe anyone. 25 or 30 years ago, if your mom was called a bitch, to her face, someone was going to drive to the clowns front door and ask for an apology. This has actually happened. Thus causing my personal preferences.

Am I being too uptight or have things become desensitized that much? I also want to preserve the friendly nature of this board, while not scaring off anyone that may be offended by some stuff.

There are some words, like bitch, that more than one meaning. I think you should just censor the words that are blatently obscene and deal with words like that on a case by case basis.

Does that mean I cant use POOPIE HEAD?
I try not to get to off color with cussing , He!!, Damn, crap,are about as far as I will go for typing a bad word, here on the forum.
Are those alright?
If not I will just use %$##@&@^ those and let anyone else fill in the rest.

The only ones I really don't like are the obvious ones. Poopie Head would be OK with me but not "Ducker" (with the appropriate "D" letter substation of course).

My opinion is as long as it isn't one of the "seven dirty words" or a form there of then it should be allowed. As always I will respect the rules and push the limits of course!

There are probably a few things that I would never say on the boards but would not take offence to if other people posted them. You are right Jim it is mostly the 7 to me also.

I'm not crazy about swearing. As a personal choice, I don't use it (Except for the ocassional lighter words like damn). I find the f-word (and all its family words) attrocious, and let's not even start on the word that rhymes with punt. That word is a million times worse than bitch.

When I am at work, I get people in all the time that will use the f-word, and I have asked them not to use that word in the store, or any other bad word for that matter. Just because you don't see a young child when you enter doesn't mean he/she is not there. I know there are many 10 year olds that can outswear me, but one can't assume the child hears swearing all the time.

I literally counted the times of naughty words said in "X-men", which was 2. I did that because I was going to give my cousin and her husband my VHS of it after I bought the DVD. They watch what is said around their children and what to show their children. I assume that most parents do that and take precautions.

I hate censorship. I read stuff that has a high content of swearing. I think as long as one swears sparingly, and can think of better descriptive terms without resorting to the f-word, it can work. I just don't like the f-word, it's family (mother), and the word that rhymes with punt.

I think using common profanity is just too easy....it's mindless. With some thought, strong emotions can be stated in a more eloquent way that will probably bamboozle the recipient more anyway!

Exactly! Not using your exact words, but I have told many habitual cussers that.

I agree with you guys. When you're trying to express emotions, blurting out profanity does nothing for you and tends to get people to dislike your opinions or thoughts even more. I've said some eloquent things without slipping into profanity, and it has caused people to do a 360 on my opinion.

I like this reply with the simplicity. Maybe I'll include it in the rules.

I think swearing in anger is unwarranted. If you are mad, don't post. If you are a dog owner/trainer and you are discussing the female dog (bitch) and it is a serious discussion and that is the professional way to describe a female dog, then it's ok.

Swearing is never ok when done in anger, silliness is ok, so I think poopy-head already connotes a silly post, so people shouldn't be mad at your post, but may offend those who are unused to the casual manner of the site.

That's my two cents, take it or let it die a long slow death.

It's much easier to slip into saying them than typing them. If you type them you can also pause and find a better way to say it.

For effect, the current insert of "Bad Word" works for me. You understand what was being said without actually having to see or read it verbatim. Even though we're more adult oriented who knows who might browse by or look over our shoulders?

The things here that look over my shoulder don't need to see anything literal!

I don't mind cursing. I curse, too much sometimes. I'm not offended by much. I don't get bent out of shape over much. That's the kind of gangsta I am. I try to respect everyone's preferences though because I know there are alot of people that are way too easily offended or just simply don't want to hear that kind of language. I do agree that it is habit forming. I notice that with myself. I don't know why it is but it is. To overuse a word tends to diminish the word's meaning.
And I'm sorry I acidentally posted that funny picture that had the MF word in it. I forgot to blur it out before posting it. Thanks for the heads-up on that but I hope I didn't cause this little problem.
